Less like a cancer than a hull breach. Separating people is a key goal of the brainwashing propaganda. Thinking individuals are walled-off, and the prophylactic effect cuts both ways, and how.
You already knew going in what you were looking at. That's because you are becoming more self-aware. You have outgrown these relationships. They are only differences.
You deserve more aware friends. They're out there.
Some people are never going to change or grow. That is not their gig this time around.
Thanks brother. Believe you are correct that as my awareness has grown these relationships have become strained, listening to intelligent people spout talking points as facts when you know they’re better than that drives me nuts. If we disagree that is fine, not having respect for others views is not okay. The emotion they have for their views is a master class in psychological manipulation, they all hold the same exact views and react the same damn way if you violate their dogma.
It is a sad fact of life in America that most of us find our political adversaries so evil that we can't bear to be tainted by them. I've not shut out any old friends; but I have seen 60-yr-old friendships dissolve because of politics. Yes, it is a cancer.
Thanks for the kind words. Think you’re right that as I have started to question my conditioning and choosing to evolve that shedding those I have called friends is the next logical step. If I no longer enjoy their company, and am attacked for holding different views, how can I still call them my friends? One cannot base friendship on the past, by doing so you will remain stagnant in your growth; think this explains why I have been slowly winnowing my friend group down to those I can still talk to freely without feeling like I need to walk on eggshells.

Yep, I’ve had to self censor my own conversation so many times in this cancel culture that I can’t even count the times anymore.
All bets are off.

Be thankful you have.
Cheers
